2011 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake

A 9.0 magnitude undersea earthquake happened 45 miles (75km) east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tohoku Region of Honsyu Island of Japan.
This earthquake triggered Tsunami with the waves as high as 124’ (37.9m) hit coasts of Japan 20 to 30 minutes after the earthquake. Some 5 story high tsunami traveled as much as 6 miles (10km) inland.
As of April 4th, there are over 12,000 people confirmed killed and another 15,000 people missing. 125,000 building were damaged or destroyed with over 250,000 people lost their homes.
There were multiple power plants that went out of commission due to the earthquake and tsunami. Most notable is the Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant.

Getting Involved
In November 2011, Mayumi Nakamura, PSPINC’s President and CEO, visited the Miyagi Prefecture in Japan, the epicenter of the Earthquake and Tsunami to see how PSPINC can help make a difference in rebuilding efforts. More than nine months after the tragedy, she witnessed first-hand the destruction left by this natural disaster: ships scattered on land, buildings completely destroyed, and debris everywhere. After this visit, Mayumi has a renewed sense of purpose and a desire to make a difference in these affected communities.
PSPINC will provide our readers with updates on PSPINC’s current involvement in helping the Tohoku region rebuild and share the stories Mayumi carried back from Japan. We support the rebuilding efforts and would like to see support for the people deeply affected by this tragedy continued by organizations in the United States and abroad. PSP Children's Foundation
Hope is something we receive by giving it to others.
PSP Children's Foundation was established with help of PSPINC on Feb 4, 2013. This organization will provide programs and opportunities for children who are the victims of disasters like the Tsunami in Japan in March 2011.
